There seem to be more questions than answers at this point after a horrible car-truck accident in the Florence area. One person is dead and several others are recovering after suffering unspecified personal injury in the collision between the SUV and commercial wood chip truck.

This truck accident happened last Thursday night around 6 p.m. Authorities say it happened at the intersection of Old Marion Highway and SC 327, a key crossroad for commercial traffic serving South Carolina's wood products industry and Horry and Marion County traffic accessing Interstate 95.

According to official reports, the accident occurred when the SUV, headed east on Old Marion Highway, collided with the 18-wheeler which was headed south on SC 327. They say the 17-year-old female driver of the SUV died at the scene. Others were reportedly taken to a local hospital for treatment. But officials apparently didn't release any information of how many there were, how they came to be hurt, or the nature of their injuries. The driver of the truck escaped unhurt.

At this point, about the only thing authorities are willing to confirm is that the intersection is controlled by a traffic light. They say their investigation is continuing and that one of the key questions they are seeking to answer is which of the drivers had the green light.

They say it will probably take a couple of weeks to conclude the investigation. After that, the findings will be turned over to the local Solicitor's office to await a determination as to whether any possible legal action is warranted.
